Auditions for the Current Production

Annisquam Village Players : Auditions for summer 2008 Production
Auditions :  Sunday May 25th (details below)

This year the Players are going back to their roots and producing the most beloved of all musicals, one that was written here in the heart of Annisquam by one of our own, Russel Crouse. Yes, The Sound of Music is coming back to Annisquam. Written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, with music by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers, the story and its soaring songs have been a favorite of theatergoers since it was produced on Broadway with Mary Martin in the late 1950s and brought to the big screen with Julie Andrews in the mid-1960s. Every child in America has been brought up on” Do-Re-Mi" and "My Favorite Things."

The Players produced this show in Annisquam sixteen years ago, in 1992, and are bringing it back this year as a tribute to Anna Murch, Russel Crouse's widow, who lives in the village. In 1992 there was standing room only at every performance and a long waiting line at the door of those who never made it in. The Players, in conjunction with the Annisquam Village Church, will present a Gala on Saturday, August 2, honoring Anna Murch, at which the 1992 cast will also appear.

Most of you know the story. Captain von Trapp, a widower, is raising his seven children alone. Maria Rainer is sent buy the local abbey as a governess, and steals the hearts of the Captain and his children. There are many wonderful parts, male and female, young and old.  In addition to the seven children (ages 6-16), we are casting kids as puppets in the "Lonely Goatherd" scene.  Liesl's boyfriend Rolf is a 17 year old aspiring soldier; the Captain's other love interest, the Baroness, and his eccentric friend Max, are wonderful character parts; all have solo songs. There are also several male non-singing character parts and, of course, our chorus of Nuns, led by the Mother Superior, who will be a focal point of the show. There are also small parts for party guests at the Austrian ball.

The musical will run six nights, Tuesday, August 5 through Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Annisquam Village Hall; rehearsals will begin the last week of June.  Children must be supervised at all rehearsals.

Auditions will be held on Sunday evening, May 25th at the Annisquam Village Hall on Leonard Street in Annisquam.   Children will audition at 4 PM;  Adults at 7 PM. Call-backs on Monday evening, May 26th .   Please note the following:

Children should prepare "The Sound of Music" and "Do-Re-Mi."
Men interested in solo parts should prepare "The Sound of Music" and "Edelweiss." Women interested in solo parts should prepare "The Sound of Music" and "Climb Every Mountain."
